Dozens of people were injured in day-long clashes between riot police and protesters in central Istanbul that lasted into the early hours on Wednesday. Riot police fired tear gas, water cannon and rubber bullets, overwhelming protesters who had been occupying Istanbul's central Taksim Square and its adjacent Gezi Park.
